Although you have a new house, I would recommend going over every nook and cranny to make sure the mice haven’t created an entryway for themselves. Caulk up and block any hole you encounter. Also, keep tree and bush branches at least six inches away from the sides of your home. And don’t leave any piles of construction materials or places where mice could hide. You may have success spraying a mixture of apple cider vinegar or sherry vinegar and water around the exterior of your home to repel rats. This repels mice and spiders, too.
Inside your home, seal up all food in sturdy containers. This includes pet food. Clean up any spills or crumbs right away, and clean the floors each night. If the mice don’t have the temptation of food to draw them inside, they may end up leaving on their own. Plus, you can install ultrasonic devices that pulse out sounds that deter them from sticking around.
