What is an Easy-to-Make Homemade Shower Cleaner?

By Joan Clark

What is an easy-to-make homemade shower cleaner? I’m tired of scrubbing off soap scum and hard water stains. Also, a lot of the best cleaners at the store are so expensive.

If you have everyday household items in your pantry, you can mix up your own easy-to-make homemade shower cleaner and other homemade cleaning products to make housecleaning easier. For example, here’s a recipe for one that won’t require scrubbing if you use it each day.

Combine one-half cup each of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide with three cups of water. Add one-half teaspoon of Dawn dishwashing liquid and two teaspoons of Jet Dry. Then spray the walls of your bath or shower and let it work.

It removes soap scum and hard water stains like magic. It is also a great way for how to clean grout in the shower if you have nasty stains that have built-up in these crevices. You can use an old toothbrush to scrub the grout if simply spraying it doesn’t do the trick.

Next, mix one tablespoon of dish soap with one cup of distilled white vinegar. This makes a powerful cleaner that you’ll need to rinse off later. But first, add a quarter teaspoon each of tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils.

Not only do the oils add fragrance but they also kill germs. This solution works well for shower drain smells and other odors in the bathroom, as well.

But not everyone appreciates the odor of vinegar. And it’s acidic enough that it can harm the grout if you don’t rinse thoroughly. Try this homemade cleaner for tubs and countertops instead.

You’ll need one teaspoon of Castile soap, one-half teaspoon of Borax washing soda, and two cups of distilled water. If you heat the water, it’s easier to mix the ingredients. Next, add four drops each of lemon and lavender essential oils plus ten drops of orange oil.

The best way for how to clean a shower curtain is to put it in the washing machine with warm water, vinegar, and some baking soda. Depending on the fabric, you can either put it in the dryer on a low setting or hang to dry.

To sum up, when you use any of these cleaners, avoid abrasive sponges. If the surface doesn’t wipe clean with a soft cloth, chances are you need to let the cleaner work longer.
