Although there are thousands of commercial cleaners on the market today, many homeowners shy away from using these often-harsh chemical compounds for washing everyday items. DIY or homemade remedies are more popular than ever due to their affordable cost, most of them utilize natural household ingredients, and they are less toxic and harmful than those you buy in the store. There are home recipes for everything from making dishwasher detergent to repelling bugs and other creatures to bleaching solutions for your hair.

A simple homemade carpet cleaning solution and stain remover are easy to make and work as well as commercial products. Depending on the size of your carpet and what it’s made from will determine what method you use. Stain removal sprays and mixtures that can be used in a carpet cleaning machine take advantage of the natural powers of items like vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and citrus.

We all know that cleaning glass can be challenging. Streaking is common and frustrating. So if you are wondering how to make a glass cleaner, just get natural ingredients like vinegar, rubbing alcohol and cornstarch that resist streaking. A squeegee and newspaper are the best ways to wipe your glass surfaces, too, to eliminate streaks.

Keeping jewelry clean can be tricky, as we tend to wear certain pieces all the time and don’t take the time to remove them to wash. Any natural jewelry cleaner recipe will depend on the type of jewelry being cleaned. There are different methods for precious stones, pearls, gold, silver, and diamonds.

No one wants to take a large amount of time to clean their deck, as it is a labor-intensive process that, thankfully, only needs to occur once a year. With a deck cleaning solution you can make at home and a power washer, the process is a little bit easier. Sealing the clean deck afterward ensures that it will stay looking nice throughout the year.
