Cleaning the oven is likely not high on your list of household tasks. Most of us wait until the last minute to tackle the job of cleaning the interior of the oven and cleaning the glass front because it can be time-consuming.
How many times have you opened your oven door and wondered what was all over the glass? Or better yet, wondered how all that grime got there? Part of spring cleaning your kitchen includes scrubbing the oven inside and out, which consists of the dreadful oven glass.
If you have tried to get your oven glass clean with little to no success, it’s time you learn some tips and tricks designed to teach you ways to clean a glass oven door with little effort and trouble.

Quick Oven Glass Cleaning Tips and Recipes
Of course, your entire oven and stove need cleaning every now and then, as well as the glass. The best way to clean a gas oven or an electric oven utilizes some of the same cleaners that you use on the glass.
Baking soda, vinegar, and ammonia all work well to get rid of burned-on food and specks of grease on the glass and the oven’s interior. Keep all of these supplies on hand for regular kitchen cleaning tasks.
Baking Soda Oven Glass Cleaner
If you have a mildly dirty oven, you can make a homemade oven glass cleaner using baking soda to restore the shine. Once you get the glass clean, use one of our DIY stove cleaner recipes to tackle the stove top.
Inside a small dish, mix the baking soda and enough warm water to form a thin paste. The paste needs to be thin to spread quickly on the glass inside the door. If it is on the thicker side, add more water until you reach the perfect consistency. Add more baking soda, if too thin.
Spread the glass cleaner across the oven door glass. Set the timer for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how dirty the oven glass is. Use a clean, wet rag to wipe away the baking soda paste.
Ammonia Oven Glass Cleaner
For extremely grimy oven door and fireplace glass, you need something a little stronger than baking soda. Learn how to clean oven window glass with some ammonia and elbow grease. Ammonia should never be used with other harsh cleaning products, though, including bleach or non toxic oven cleaner.
Do not start cleaning the inside of your oven with ammonia until you have opened some windows and limited access to the stove. You can clean gas fireplace glass and oven doors by opening the oven door and lining it with paper towels. Pour some ammonia into a squirt bottle and spray the paper towels until they are saturated.
With the oven door open, let the paper towels sit for up to one hour. Wear your rubber gloves to remove and dispose of the paper towels. Use the copper scrubber to gently rub any stubborn areas. For really stubborn stains, use more pressure with the scrubber. Wipe the oven door with a clean cloth.
No Scrub Oven Glass Cleaner
One of the ways to clean a self cleaning oven is using the self-cleaning feature, but nobody likes the smell it leaves behind. Rather than use the self-clean function, use a no-scrub oven glass cleaner to achieve the same or better results.
To make this great DIY grease cleaner, mix all three ingredients. Use an old rag to spread the mixture across the entire oven door. Let stand for at least 20 minutes. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Buff the oven door and glass with a microfiber cloth.
Overnight Homemade Oven Glass Cleaner
Sometimes your dirty oven requires more in-depth cleaning than just the glass door. If the inside of your oven is coated in black, sticky grime, give this overnight homemade oven glass cleaner a try.
To clean your dirty oven, remove everything from inside, including the oven racks. Make a paste with half a cup of baking soda and three tablespoons of water. Spread the baking soda paste throughout the interior of your oven, but avoid having the cleaning paste come into contact with the heating elements.
Close the oven door and allow the baking soda cleaner to sit overnight or for up to 12 hours. While waiting, clean the oven racks by soaking in hot water with a few tablespoons of dish soap. The best way to clean racks is to soak them inside your bathtub.
After 12 hours, use a damp cloth to wipe up the oven. Remove as much of the baking soda as possible. For stubborn spots, use a razor blade to carefully scrape away the baking soda or stuck-on grime.
Add vinegar to a squirt bottle and spray the interior of the oven. Make sure the vinegar comes into contact with any leftover baking soda. The vinegar causes the baking soda to start foaming. Using a clean damp cloth, wipe down the inside of the oven until clean.
If you need the best way to clean wood stove glass, try the careful use of a razor blade after the fire is out and the glass is cool. It takes a little effort, but you can remove unsightly debris.
Clean Your Oven with Lemon
Lemons are a natural cleaner and degreaser, and they are safe to use on all stoves, including self-cleaning ovens. Shining oven glass is similar to cleaning mirrors, so try our other recipes.
Cut the two lemons in half and squeeze out the juice into a small baking dish. Once juiced, place the peels inside the baking dish and fill 1/3 of the way with water. Place dish inside the oven, turn the oven on to 250°F and allow to cook for 30 minutes.
Remove the baking dish and allow the oven to cool. Use a scouring pad to scrub away the grime inside the oven, paying close attention to the inside of your oven door. Dip the scouring pad into the lemon water as you scrub away the grime for the best results. Once clean, wipe the oven with a dry towel.
